Events Team
Don Francis
The Events team collaborates with leadership to organize engaging networking and professional development events that connect graduate students in the LA Basin with local biotech companies and startups. This includes reaching out to local leaders to serve as keynote speakers or panelists, as well as managing the logistics and operations of each event. As BCLA is always planning new and exciting opportunities, our team is continuously growing! We encourage all interested applicants to apply, whether or not they have prior event experience. We’re eager to guide you through the process and help you expand your presence within the LA biotech community.
Media & Marketing Team
The Media and Marketing team manages BCLA’s promotional efforts across multiple platforms, ensuring our community stays informed and engaged. We run social media on LinkedIn, Instagram, X, and other channels, where we highlight upcoming events, keynote speakers, panelists, discussion topics, and key moments. Our team designs flyers and digital materials to enhance visibility and outreach. We also produce a monthly newsletter featuring recaps of past events, announcements for upcoming programs, new Inside Biotech podcast episodes, and other key BCLA updates. Additionally, we maintain and update the website to ensure all information remains accurate and accessible. Through these efforts, we amplify BCLA’s impact, foster meaningful conversations, and strengthen connections within the biotech community.

Development Team
The Development team drives BCLA’s partner acquisition and fundraising efforts to support our events and initiatives. We build and maintain relationships with past and potential partners, securing sponsorships that align with BCLA’s mission. Our team creates tailored sponsorship packages, conducts outreach to new sponsors, and ensures each event has the necessary financial backing. Additionally, we gather feedback through yearly sponsor surveys and post-event satisfaction surveys to strengthen partnerships and enhance future collaborations.
Outreach Team
The Outreach team represents BCLA by creating and maintaining relationships with previous and potential connections. We engage STEM student resources and seek out partnerships with STEM recruiting departments. We make connections in both academic and industry settings to promote events, find partners, and foster sponsor opportunities. We get to spread the word about BCLA in all relevant scientific spaces through promotional outreach campaigns. This includes students, companies, and other related biotech organizations.
